Competency Profiling
Competency-based systems are a key component in strategic talent management. Effective learning programs are frequently informed by competency profiles, and performance results are measured by changed behaviours linked to these competencies.
Competency profiling is a process that aims to identify the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) required for effectiveness in a specific job role within a specific organization.
Once a set of competencies has been identified or provided, these competencies can be applied at the recruitment stage and can also be used throughout an employee's career for appraisal, training and reward purposes. Competency profiling can be divided into four main categories:
- Job competency profiling - profiling based on the job-specific tasks
- Role competency profiling - profiling based on an individual employee's role in the organization's overall success
- Functional competency profiling - profiling based on the skills required of an employee in a functional role within the business (such as Finance or IT)
- Core competency profiling - profiling based on the competencies required by every employee, linked to the overall values and vision of the organization
Competency profiling is an essential part of our custom program design process, because it:
- Informs the knowledge, skills and abilities that must be supported by program content
- Provides a means to measure results - comparing performance before and after the learning experience, by describing changed behaviours in the context of competency development
We support competency profiling via our consulting services, and also enable organizations to develop internal expertise by means of our Competency Profiling Certification workshops.
