Project Management Fundamentals
This 3 day introduction to Project Management is intended for either the new Project Manager or the experienced Project Manager requiring formal education. This course is not part of the Masters Certificate in Project Management but is a great foundation should you not have any other formal education or wish to pursue the Masters Certificate at a later date.
It clearly answers questions such as "What is Project Management?" and "What skills do I need as a Project Manager?"
Course Topics
Day 1 - What is a Project and What is Project Management?
- The PMI® (Project Management Institute), the PMBOK® (Project Management Body of Knowledge), and the profession of Project Management are introduced.
- The course defines a project and discusses why projects succeed or fail. The 5 Process Groups and 9 Knowledge Areas, as defined in the PMBOK, are introduced. The Project Management Life Cycle is compared and contrasted with the Solution Development Life Cycle.
- The Initiation Phase, and the creation of the Project Charter and Scope Statement, are discussed.
Day 2 - The Planning Phase of a Project (and discussion of the tools used by the Project Manager)
- Work Breakdown Structures
- Network Diagrams
- Critical Path Calculations
- Budget Planning
- Schedule Planning
- Resource Planning
- Risk Planning
- Communication Planning
Day 3 - Execution, Monitoring and Controlling and Closure
This course is rounded out with the Project Manager's roles; responsibilities; tools and techniques in the Execution; Monitoring and Controlling Phases; and how to properly close a project.
